Homegrown vegetables – fresh and tasty

Hey! I’m posting an extra blog this week as I just had to share with you the progress of our homegrown goodies.

About six weeks ago we started to grow some vegetables in a planter on our balcony (you can read more about that here) and we’re just starting to enjoy some of our fresh veggies. We have harvested two lettuces already, which were delicious and HUGE! And we have a lovely bell pepper and some strawberries growing steadily.

With all the sun we have had recently everything in the planter shot up and it was starting to look a little cramped in there. So we decided to thin it out a little – we harvested a few spring onions for a salad and thinned out the carrots to give the others more room to grow.

The lettuce, spring onions and baby carrots made up the bulk part of a delicious salad I had one evening for dinner. But we weren’t the only ones to enjoy these scrummy veggies. Some of the carrots we thinned were teeny – the perfect hamster sized treat! Here’s Sweep and Tarzan my adorable hamsters enjoying their fresh carrot.

And this is Tarzan who was so excited to eat the carrot that he ate is from my hand

Super cute! Anyways I’m off to go practice my knitting 🙂
